We have heard this story before, over and over again. A family was moving. Their home was in boxes, furniture was being moved around, and everyone was cranky and super stressed out. Their poor kitty, MacKenzie, was herself alarmed and upset at all the inexplicable commotion. She peed out of the box to communicate her distress. This is unfortunately (for humans) how cats and other animals communicate that they are unwell or all is unwell in their world.
Unfortunately, she must not have had a very good home because she was taken right away to a shelter. Shelters are so distressing to kitties and the likelihood of her being moved to the euthanasia room was very real despite the fact that she was a healthy, young Maine Coon. The shelter asked Purebreds if we would take her in. Of course I said yes and took her off to the Vet right away. She checked out as being in perfect health. We had a urinalysis and a urine culture done on her. There was nothing wrong in her urine at all. The diagnosis was she had a self-generated, upset bladder due to stress. This common condition is called idiopathic cystitis.
We loved her up and gave her urinary soothing drops (Pet Wellbeing Urinary Gold). As she relaxed and settled in with us, she has had perfect litterbox habits. Actually, she always, from the very start, peed in the box for us, but we noticed her pee balls were smaller than usual, implying pain in urinating. Now, they are a larger, normal size and she is over her trouble. She has been showing us what a loving girl she is. She loves affection and loves to press her head passionately hard into your hand. She loves catnip, too,and as the photo below shows, simply eats as much of it as she can.
I love that MacKenzie has a red nose to offset her green eyes. It gives her such a dramatic face. She hates the camera and tends to stiffen and stare at it. It looks like she is glaring or angry. That is too bad because she is really a soft, loving, super-smart girl. She has a long, wonderful Maine Coon ruff, one of the most pronounced I have ever seen. Look at her elegant ruff in the photo of her sitting in front of the window. She likes being brushed and her silky hair smooths and fluffs up nicely. Her tail, as you can see, is also very fluffy and long. She is a beautiful Maine Coon girl.
One thing you need to know about her is that she does not like other cats. I wish I knew her history, but she is pretty serious about not wanting cats around her. I dont know how she is with dogs, but I do know she wants to get all the kitty attention in her home. She needs a stable, peaceful home -- no chaos, no young noisy children or dogs, I would guess. Just a nice quiet home with sunny windows for her to look out of. I would suggest she continue being given daily Urinary Comfort drops for a while. This cant hurt (these are botanical drops) and may help her transition to her new home. She will make someone a beautiful, unusual, very loving and interesting companion.
MacKenzie eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.
